Simply put: much of the work to improve hospital safety must occur outside hospitals - within local communities. This will require the aid of business and community leaders to raise public awareness and motivate civic action. By forming local patient safety coalitions, communities will increase the likelihood that safety education is tightly coordinated with safety training for healthcare professionals in their hospitals, outpatient facilities, and nursing homes.
When released, Dr. Watson's book will provide insights and steps to build effective patient safety coalitions. Or, contact her through Safety & Leadership Solutions for more information.
